Gospel Fest 2008’s Producer/Artist Riki Brooks
Gospel Fest 2008

It’s really not about quartet, contemporary, traditional, Christian rap, Holy hip-hop, or any of the other many sub-divisions that have evolved under the Gospel/Christian music umbrella. It’s about Jesus!

"This year’s theme is Bridging Communities, Breaking Boundaries and Building New Foundations. That’s the message of this year’s event as it will offer something for the whole family,” says Atlanta’s Gospel Fest 2008’s Producer/Artist Riki Brooks. Every kind of artist and talent will be represented from singers, producers, praise & dance teams, comedians and choirs. When we say something for everyone – we mean EVERYONE! For the children - bubble gum contest, face painting, holla hoop contest and more. For the artists – radio and magazine companies providing information and exposure. And for ANYBODY and EVERYBODY – the legendary Dorothy Norwood; a roundtable discussion moderated by De Etta West, Director of Ministry Partnership; Bishop Jesse Harris, Founder/Publisher of The Gospel Newspaper and of course, Chittlin’ Circuit Magazine. Come join us. You don’t want to miss it.

A Tribute In Memory of Steve Ladd
(Bernie Henderson Smith, Jr.)
October 31, 1944-July 20, 2008
Special Thanks to Kaye Fullylove KKDA-AM Dallas, Texas

Radio Veteran/Legend Steve Ladd has passed away. Steve Ladd crossed over to the other side of life on July 20, 2008 at approximately 1:46 pm at he age of 63.

The Real Dr. as he was affectionately called by his listeners on KKDA-AM (730 AM) at Service Broadcasting in Dallas, Texas back in the 80's and 90's was currently an On Air Personality at America's Original Black Radio Station-The Legendary WDIA (1070 AM) in Memphis, Tennessee from 4:30 pm-6 pm on "What's On Your Mind Line" Monday-Friday and "All Blues Saturday" shows from 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.

His voice was the epitome of an Original Old School Radio Disc Jockey that did not sound scripted, (in other words he did not sound like anyone else), he had a distinctive voice and style that put him in a class all by himself.

Steve became one of my Radio Mentors back in 1976 when we both worked at K104-FM (KKDA's Second Radio Station) in it's infancy days back then, and he welcomed me aboard as he was proud of me-his home girl from Sherman, Texas. Steve Ladd was born in Denison, Texas on October 31, 1944 (10 miles from Sherman), he was a proud Denisonian.

Wife and Grandson of Reverend Timothy Wright Killed in Tragic Car Accident
Rev Tim and Betty Wright
Reverend Timothy Wright and wife Betty
First Lady Betty Wright, wife of Reverend Timothy Wright and her grandson D.J. Wright were killed in a car accident on Friday, July 4th, 2008.

The Grammy award winning Rev Timothy Wright was critically injured. The accident occurred on highway 80 in Pennsylvania as Rev. Wright and his family members were heading home after attending a Church of God in Christ AIM conference in Detroit, Mi.

A vehicle driven by John Pick was heading westbound in the eastbound lane hit Rev. Wrights car head on causing a haze of smoke which blinded the driver of another vehicle behind Rev Wright’s car, causing that driver to hit the Wright vehicle from the rear. First lady Betty Wright (58) was killed instantly and 14 year old D.J. Wright died later at a hospital in Lamar Barrack Pa. The drive of the westbound vehicle was also killed.

Rev Wright is the winner of several Grammies and numerous other awards for his gospel singing. He and the First Lady had also collaborated on a few gospel songs. Rev Wright was the Pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where his wife served as co-pastor. He is the father of five sons, Danny, David, Derrick, Dwayne and Donny.

Grace Tabernacle Christian Center held two Prayer services on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 one at 11:45 am and another at 5:45 pm. It was a praise and worship service overshadowed by heavy hearts of many of Rev Wright’s parishioners, who were determined to praise God in the manner in which Rev Wright and his wife had often demonstrated.

According to one of his sons, Reverend Wright has been informed of his grandson’s death but not the death of his wife. The family is not disclosing Rev. Wright’s injuries, they just say that he is in critical condition but aware of his surroundings.
