| Vel Omarr and the Prudhomme sisters team up |
Vel Omarr and the song writting duo, The Prudhomme sisters, Betty and Beverly, have joined forces on Vel Omarr's latest CD, "There's Only One Life To Live".
It should be noted, that the Prudhomme sisters (twins), have been writting songs for many years. In fact, they wrote the song "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day", sung by Country Western singer, Johnny Russell, and legendary Soul singers, Johnny Taylor and Sam Cooke. Betty and Beverly also wrote the popular hit song, "My Baby Don't Love Nobody But Me" sung by Dee Clark. The list of legendary performers they have worked with goes on and on!Not only did the sisters write the song "There's Only One Life To Live", they also perform the background vocals. You can check out all three of Vel's CDs in the Online Jukebox in the Rhythm and Blues category..
Vel Omarr was born on a small farm in the Mississippi Delta. His mother found that living in the south and working the cotton fields was not... could not... be all that life had to offer. So, like thousands had done before her, she packed her bags and took the "next train smoking" to Chicagoin search of better things. VEL remained in Mississippi with his grandparents. He attended church every Sunday and remembers sometimes they would travel to neighboring towns to hear a "Big Preacher" or enjoy a shouting, spirit filled "Gospel Fest." Vel credits Sam Cooke with being his singing inspiration from childhood. Mastering Cooke's vocal techniques and stage presence have made him a sought-after vocalist throughout America. Vel joined the legendary R&B / DooWop group, the Robins, as their second tenor lead singer, for a reunion tour in 1991. He remained with H.B. Barnum and The Robins until 1995. Vel Omarr is currently performing his tribute to the Legendary Sam Cooke and has opened for legendary greats James Brown, Little Richard, Brenton Wood, Brenda Holloway, The Penguins, and is currently one of the lead tenor singers, along with Walter Ward, with the legendary Olympics. |
