50 Nominees to Attend Blues Music Awards PDF Print E-mail
So far close to 50 nominees have confirmed their attendance at the Blues Music Awards May 11 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee on May 11. The presenting sponsor for the 2006 Blues Music Awards is the Gibson family of products.
Those attending the event will be hangin’ with Tab Benoit, Elvin Bishop, Mookie Brill, Big George Brock, Nora Jean Bruso, DuWayne Burnside, Sam Carr, Tommy Castro, Shemekia Copeland, Rich Del Grosso Billy Gibson, Zac Harmon, Denise LaSalle, Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Janiva Magness, Bob Margolin, Big James Montgomery, Nick Moss & the Flip Tops, Paul Oscher, Calvin Owens, Sista Monica Parker, Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers, Bobby Purify, Ann Rabson, Bobby Rush, Mem Shannon, Eddie Shaw, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Bob Stroger, Otis Taylor, Eddie Turner, Michael “Mudcat” Ward and Kim Wilson. Most of these folks will be on stage at one time or another. We also expect some very special guests joining in the festivities. There are still seats left for the reception, dinner, awards, performances, dancing, networking and all around fun. The 2006 Blues Music Awards are also sponsored by BMI, FedEx, the Greater Memphis Arts Council, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, Blues Revue, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and the Stanford Financial Group.

1. Purchase your tickets—either individual tickets or a table of ten. The sooner you do this, the better the seat. Visit The Blues Store or call 901.527.2583 to purchase tickets. The $100 ticket includes pre-party reception with the nominees and a performance by 2006 IBC winners Eden Brent and Joey Gilmore; silent auction, fabulous dinner, the award presentations and dozens of nominee performances.

2. Book your hotel. If you wish to be in the host hotel Memphis Marriott Downtown across the street from the show, call 800-228-9290 to get the special rate for Blues Music Awards attendees. Hurry, those rooms are disappearing fast.

3. Show up early and stay late. When planning your travel, remember the Beale Street Music Festival will be May 5-7 and the Ponderosa Stomp will be May 9-10. The 2006 Blues Music Awards are Thursday, May 11 at the Cook Convention Center. The night after the 2006 Blues Music Awards, the folks at Delta Groove Productions and Blues Revue will present a not-to-be-missed show featuring their great nominees and many others. “The Delta Groove All Star Blues Revue” show will feature The Mannish Boys, Mitch Kashmar, the Hollywood Blue Flames, and The Delta Groove All Star Blues Revue, featuring Finis Tasby, Kid Ramos, Kirk Fletcher, Johnny Dyer, Leon Blue, Al Blake, Larry Taylor and Randy Chortkoff. But that ain't all, in addition to the regular Delta Groove gang, you will also see Kim Wilson, Paul Oscher, Rusty Zinn and Junior Watson!!!! The party will be at the New Daisy Theater on Beale Street in Memphis. The doors open at 8 p.m. and we will be going late! It is recommended that you get tickets for this event early! And earlier in the day, Robert "Wolfman" Belfour can be heard and the art of George Hunt can be seen all while enjoying Memphis Marys at D'Edge Art and Unique Treasures and of course, the late night place to be is the Rum Boogie with Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin.

That makes a very musical week in Memphis. And Pinetop, Willie "Big Eyes" and Big George Brock are at Ground Zero in Clarksdale that weekend too.
