Wife and Grandson of Reverend Timothy Wright Killed in Tragic Car Accident
Rev Tim and Betty Wright
Reverend Timothy Wright and wife Betty
First Lady Betty Wright, wife of Reverend Timothy Wright and her grandson D.J. Wright were killed in a car accident on Friday, July 4th, 2008.

The Grammy award winning Rev Timothy Wright was critically injured. The accident occurred on highway 80 in Pennsylvania as Rev. Wright and his family members were heading home after attending a Church of God in Christ AIM conference in Detroit, Mi.

A vehicle driven by John Pick was heading westbound in the eastbound lane hit Rev. Wrights car head on causing a haze of smoke which blinded the driver of another vehicle behind Rev Wright’s car, causing that driver to hit the Wright vehicle from the rear. First lady Betty Wright (58) was killed instantly and 14 year old D.J. Wright died later at a hospital in Lamar Barrack Pa. The drive of the westbound vehicle was also killed.

Rev Wright is the winner of several Grammies and numerous other awards for his gospel singing. He and the First Lady had also collaborated on a few gospel songs. Rev Wright was the Pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where his wife served as co-pastor. He is the father of five sons, Danny, David, Derrick, Dwayne and Donny.

Grace Tabernacle Christian Center held two Prayer services on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 one at 11:45 am and another at 5:45 pm. It was a praise and worship service overshadowed by heavy hearts of many of Rev Wright’s parishioners, who were determined to praise God in the manner in which Rev Wright and his wife had often demonstrated.

According to one of his sons, Reverend Wright has been informed of his grandson’s death but not the death of his wife. The family is not disclosing Rev. Wright’s injuries, they just say that he is in critical condition but aware of his surroundings.

Long Time Blues Man Bill Coday Dead at 66

Bill Coday
It comes with great saddness that we have to report that long time blues man Bill Coday passed away last night about 8:30pm in a local hospital in Memphis, TN.  Anna Coday (Bill's wife) tells the Chittlin Circuit that Bill was to go to the recording studio Monday to record a new single.

Born May 10, 1942 in Coldwater, Mississippi, Bill spent his younger years in Arkansas until he moved to Chicago in the early 1960's. It was in Chicago that Bill was discovered by "The Queen" Denise Lasalle. Bill was signed to Denise's Label and recorded several singles. It was 1971 when Bill's first hit "Get Your Lies Straight" set Bill's career in high gear.

Bill then went on to record for Epic Records and Echo Records. He finally decided to get his own label B&J records based in Memphis, TN.

Bill was a close friend of the Chilltin Circuit and a personal friend of the Chittlin Circuit's editor. He will be missed greatly
