Jr. Walker's All Star Band - Alive and Well PDF Print E-mail
If someone mentioned the song "Shotgun" to you, it is almost certain that Jr. Walker and the All Stars would come to mind. This 60's group consisted of Autry DeWalt aka Jr. Walker, Tony Washington, Willie Woods and Victor Thomas.
The famous Moonglow founder Harvey Fuqua, moved his acts which included Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Marvin Gay, and the Spinners from his label to Motown in the early sixtys. From then on the group became a household name. They has such hits as "Shotgun", " I'm A Roadrunner" and several more up until the late seventies. Through the 80's and early 90's the band continued to tour. In November 1995, Jr. Walker passed away in his home in Battle Creek,Michigan then Willie Woods died the following year. The passing of the two almost closed the book on the All Star Band but, Acklee King spoke with Roosevelt Walker (Jr.'s stepfather) who agreed the band should continue on. So, he contacted Tony and Victor and hired Kenny Walker (also plays in "Little Richard's band) and the band started touring again.
