|
Another first for the Chittlin’ Circuit…Ms Monique is the first solo female artist to grace the cover of the Chittlin’ Circuit Entertainment Magazine. And graces it well, we might add! Even before we get to her vocal talent and performance abilities, it’s more than worth mentioning that Ms Monique is a beautiful woman and she does a superb job in front of the camera. “She takes absolutely gorgeous pictures. The camera loves her and if she’s working with a skilled photographer, she at her very best from all angles,” says Barry Shipp, photographer and owner of Craig’s Digital Photography. Now on to Ms Monique – the entertainer: For her, it all started at a family gathering when she was an eight-year-old adolescent. A band was providing the entertainment for the party and Ms Monique was asked to sing a song for the occasion. The title of that song was “Bad Girls,” one of three hits that made Pop entertainer Donna Summer the first female artist to ever score three #1 singles in the same calendar year (1979). Those singles were psychedelic pop epic “MacArthur Park,” lusty singles “Bad Girls” and rock-oriented “Hot Stuff.” Now, Ms Monique doesn’t claim to be a “bad girl,” but this sultry Palm Beach, Florida native has known since she was a young girl that she wanted to be a recording artist. Like many other singers, Ms Monique’s mother, who still resides in Palm Beach, was also blessed with the gift of song as well as her uncle. Ms Monique continued to practice her craft in the church, through high school, and while attending Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Later she was featured as the opening act for some world-wide entertainers across several genres of music including B.B. King,”the King of the Blues,” Pop/R&B artist Jeffery Osborne and the Grammy Award-Winning Jazz Flutist, Nestor Torres. Ms Monique’s career has already taken her beyond the boundaries of the United States. She has performed in Italy, Germany and Austria and while touring in Europe she got stranded in 2001 after the devastating Twin Towers attack on September 11th. Ms Monique signed with Times Records in 2002 and traveled to Italy to cut a single titled “Memories.” She used this period in her life to establish her own style and she later became a back-up singer for the popular Southern Soul recording artist “Sir Charles Jones.” The Southern Soul style of music suited her fancy just right. Ms. Monique found her home with this genre of music. At the beginning of 2003, Ms Monique made a calculated move to Georgia hoping to benefit from the many producers and recording studios in Atlanta. It worked for her! She soon became acquainted with Soul Entertainment CEO, Tony Taylor. ![]() And for Ms Monique… Her story begins again… During the first quarter of 2005, the collaboration between Ms Monique, Tony Taylor and Producer Frank McKinney was realized as she released “Love Therapy,” her first single from her debut CD, titled SOUL SESSIONS CHAPTER I Ms Monique hosted her CD release party a few months ago at Club Ellery’s in Atlanta, Georgia. And what a fantastic host she was. Hats off to Tony Taylor for putting on a real, grande affair. Southern Soul artist Dave Mack of Mabry Music (Jackson, Mississippi) set the tone for Ms Monique as her vocal performance and accompanying stage antics captivated the audience. The album is already receiving airplay in England, France, Sweden and USA markets. Ms Monique spent the holidays touring in Las Vegas, Nevada.
