Isaac Hayes Hospitalized PDF Print E-mail
Memphis soul legend Isaac Hayes was admitted to a Memphis hospital Tuesday night (Jan. 17, 2006), suffering from what longtime song-writing partner David Porter called exhaustion.
Hayes's most recent performance came Sunday night (Jan. 15, 2006) at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Ms., where he appeared with frequent collaborator Roberta Flack.
Mr Hayes' current condition is not known at this time.

Wilson Pickett dies of heart attack at 64 PDF Print E-mail
Wilson Pickett, the soul pioneer best known for the fiery hits "Mustang Sally" and "In The Midnight Hour," died of a heart attack Thursday, according to his management company. He was 64.
Chris Tuthill of the management company Talent Source said Pickett had been suffering from health problems for the past year.

Jr. Walker's All Star Band - Alive and Well PDF Print E-mail
If someone mentioned the song "Shotgun" to you, it is almost certain that Jr. Walker and the All Stars would come to mind. This 60's group consisted of Autry DeWalt aka Jr. Walker, Tony Washington, Willie Woods and Victor Thomas.
The famous Moonglow founder Harvey Fuqua, moved his acts which included Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Marvin Gay, and the Spinners from his label to Motown in the early sixtys. From then on the group became a household name. They has such hits as "Shotgun", " I'm A Roadrunner" and several more up until the late seventies.

Lou Rawls - Dead at 72 PDF Print E-mail
Lou Rawls, whose mellifluous baritone was featured on hits ranging from his own "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" to Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me," has died. He was 72.

Rawls died Friday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, where he was hospitalized last month for treatment of lung and brain cancer, said his publicist, Paul Shefrin. His wife, Nina, was at his bedside when he died.

The singer was as well known for his charitable activities as he was for his smooth four-octave range. He founded the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon, which raised millions of dollars for the United Negro College Fund.

Rawls was born on December 1, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois. (Some sources say 1935.) A childhood friend of Sam Cooke -- and, like Cooke, trained in gospel -- as a teenager he took Cooke's place in Cooke's gospel group, the Highway QCs, and later supported Cooke on tour and in the studio.
